Espiritu Victoria
22"w X 30"h X 18"depth, Clay with bronze dust,interference powders, and pigments.
Espirtu Victoria, taken from the Greek Sculpture, The Winged Victory of Simothrace, represents a totem to peace. Taking flight is the winged spirit, bringing harmony to the world. The head is symbolic of the faceless divine by it's open and featureless cloaked head.
Neptune
26"w X 20"h X 10"depth, Acrylic on high-fired clay, mixed media
Representing the God of the sea and dreams, the face looks forward with an expression of hope. At the neck, a firey inside is revealed, symbolic of the relationship of fire and water. A hole in the cheek suggests an entry point for spirit to fly in and out. The piece is a totem to the dreamer in all of us. Without imagination and dreams, our culture in the 21st century has become sterile and violent, as if mechanical humanoids. This piece is an invitation to bring back a culture that honors spirit through sculptural works.
The World Tree
16"w X 30"h X 16"depth, Cassius Basaltic clay, glass ball, various stones
The World Tree, tree of life, is a totem to honor ancient and modern cultures which see the tree as the center of the universe. Forming a trunk-like shape are Saturn the Ram, the Lion King, the Solstice King, the Phoenix Bird, and the Angel of Forgiveness. The Roman God Saturn in the shape of a ram, represents law and structure, diligence and self-discipline. It is with limits that one harmonizes with the energy of the Earth. The Lion King represents strength, courage and fertility. Resting at the base, it influences the hopes and highest aspiration of humans-to be loyal in protecting the Earth from harm. The Solstice King or Sun King, represents the Sun, the center of our solar system, a star that burns with intense fire and supplies us with light, heat and energy. The Phoenix Bird represents, the life, death, rebirth cycle which all life on Earth must abide. As a totemic part, it represents the fire that crumbles our current culture of destruction, and in turn, will one day rise as a beautiful civilization. The Angel of Forgiveness, represents the heavens and the spirit which guides our hearts. Humbly supporting the base, it looks upward with hope and gratitude for the harmony of Earth and all it provides to sustain life. Pyrite, azurite, rose quartz, and hemotite, are positioned in the hands of each symbolic spirit to represent, power, strength, grounding and love.
